The Pick & Pay Cape Argus is done and dusted. Road season is over and the MTB season is set to start with a bang this week in the form of the ABSA Cape Epic. So where to now for our avid roadies? Well we at Circle Cycles came up with a plan so cunning you can pin a tail to it and call it a weasel. Firstly it will keep you fit and on the road, so come Spring League you’ll have a head start on all those who went into hibernation over winter. Secondly it will give you a chance to practice that dreaded of all skills, climbing. And lastly it will provide a forum for friendly competition, banter and bragging rights.
So with no further a do we wish to present to you the Circle Cycles King and Queen of The Mountain Time Trial Series!
It will take the format of a time trial up one of the peninsula’s plethora of stunning climbs once a month from the month of April through to August. The longest distance will be 6.5 km and the shortest 3.5 km. We will run a log system with points awarded to the best 20 times of each event. The persons on the top of the log at the end of the series will be crowned overall King and Queen of the Mountain. For the winners there will be a prize, consisting of a Suunto T3d sports watch and heart rate monitor. To be eligible for the prize you will have to have done at least five of the time trials, with Noordhoek to Silvermine being compulsory. This allows for one bye during the course of the series.
To enter, all participants will have to sign a Liability Waiver form and be over 18 years old. No entry fees will be charged and participants can merely arrive on the day, no prior entry is required. Results will be made available on the first Monday after the event on our website.

The main emphasis is to establish a monthly get together during the winter months. The aim is to maintain that community feeling that has been established, but also to grow our community of cyclists. To make this successful though it is important to remember that it is a non-paying and informal get together facilitated by Circle Cycles. So the event organization at times might seem very basic but please remember this is not the Argus or the Epic. Time keeping will be done by stopwatch (No Racetech), we won’t have marshals or road indicators and we definitely do not have the funds for road closures.
Maps and Profiles of all events will be available at Circle Cycles on the Notice Board or on our website. Details such as parking, event time and meeting points will be available from the Monday before the event. We will endeavor to also send out a newsletter on the Monday before each event. Looking forward to getting your feedback, but mostly really eager to see you guys out there on the day. We are very excited about this!!!
Regards from the team at Circle Cycles
